Class Information

7th grade science
In this class students will use the the Educurious curriculum to learn about life science. This curriculum uses ambitious science teaching techniques energizes students with ideas that matter. It connects students to the world through a global network of subject matter experts and mentors, who relate the curriculum to challenges in today’s workplace. Students solve problems by using targeted critically thinking skills, and develop ideas and designs while focusing on a current world phenomenon.

7th and 8th grade: The PLTW elective choice is a semester long but will pivot to the new topic at the quarter date. For example, if your student is interested in taking Automation and Robotics it will only be a quarter long and then switch over to Design and Modeling at the quarter date. Below is a brief overview of the Design and Modeling & Automation and Robotics courses

Design and Modeling (DM) provides students opportunities to apply the design process to creatively solve problems. Students are introduced to the unit problem in the first activity and are asked to make connections to the problem throughout the lessons in the unit. Students learn and utilize methods for communicating design ideas through sketches, solid models, and mathematical models. Students will understand how models can be simulated to represent an authentic situation and generate data for further analysis and observations. Students work in teams to identify design requirements, research the topic, and engage stakeholders.

In the Automation and Robotics (AR) unit, students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics® platform to design, build, and program real-world objects.
